Waterfront access

Powell River Regional District directors supported the application for Crown land tenure on a small parcel of land that will serve as a gravel parking area and location to install signage for the Steamboat Bay waterfront access site. One of 17 sites approved by the board to be opened in 2013, it is located off Sarah Point Road, approximately six kilometres northwest of Lund, adjacent to Thulin Passage and across from the Copeland Islands.

Wildfire notification

Directors endorsed writing a letter to the minister of forests, lands and natural resource operations requesting that the Wildfire Management Branch work with Powell River Regional Emergency program to develop and implement an effective notification procedure to inform the regional district of all wildfires within its boundaries.

Fire fighting equipment

Directors approved the purchase of three thermal imagers for the Northside Volunteer Fire Department for a total cost of $19,849.

Brownfield renewal

The board directed staff to submit applications to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Green Municipal Fund, for the development of closure plans for City of Powell River’s former incinerator/waste transfer site and the former municipal airport dump site.

Traffe Road

Directors adopted the Traffe Road zoning bylaw.
