Directors support mine probe

Powell River Regional District directors passed a motion to advise the ministry of energy, mines and petroleum resources that the regional district has no objection to the proposed notice of work application submitted by Eastfield Resources Ltd. regarding its claim sites northeast of Okeover Inlet, subject to a sensitive ecosystem assessment. The work involves soil sampling and surveying, constructing about 1,200 metres of road access and drilling 12 holes with an average depth of 200 metres.

Bylaws

Director adopted amendments to the Lund, Texada Island and Savary Island official community plans which establish targets and policies for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Parking improvements

Stan Gisborne, Electoral Area B director, informed the board there is money in the 2012 budget to make parking improvements on McLeod Road at the Paradise Exhibition Park grounds in time for the 2012 Fall Fair.

Subdivision referral

Directors voted to advise the ministry of transportation and infrastructure that the regional district does not support a proposed three-lot subdivision of property in the Prior Road area because it fails to meet the 10 per cent frontage requirement. The motion also stated the regional district withholds support for the application until after a riparian area assessment is completed by a qualified environmental professional.

Grant

Directors endorsed a $600 grant to Sandpipers Play Centre on Texada Island to assist with updating children’s books, with the funds coming from Electoral Area D.

Local assistant

Directors passed a motion to request the fire commissioner’s office appoint Michael Wall, Savary Island Volunteer Fire Department wildland chief, as a local assistant to the fire commissioner.

Board meeting

Directors agreed to reschedule the September regional hospital board and regional board meetings to Wednesday, September 19, to accommodate directors attending the UBCM (Union of BC Municipalities) annual convention during the week of September 24 to 28.
