Directors support mine probe

Powell River Regional District directors passed a motion to advise the ministry of energy, mines and petroleum resources that the regional district has no objection to the proposed notice of work application submitted by Eastfield Resources Ltd. regarding its claim sites northeast of Okeover Inlet, subject to a sensitive ecosystem assessment. The work involves soil sampling and surveying, constructing about 1,200 metres of road access and drilling 12 holes with an average depth of 200 metres.

Director adopted amendments to the Lund, Texada Island and Savary Island official community plans which establish targets and policies for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Parking improvements

Stan Gisborne, Electoral Area B director, informed the board there is money in the 2012 budget to make parking improvements on McLeod Road at the Paradise Exhibition Park grounds in time for the 2012 Fall Fair.
