Fears of salmonella contamination have prompted a recall on goldfish crackers.

The Canada Food Inspection Agency says consumers should avoid eating Pepperidge Farm brand Goldfish Flavour Blasted Xtreme Cheddar Crackers

The crackers that are of concern have expiration dates for January and February 2019. They are also labelled by UPC codes of “0 14100 08406 8” and “0 14100 23245 2.”

Those particularly at risk are young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. They may be subject to  serious and sometimes deadly infections.

“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea” says the agency. “Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”

There have been no reported illnesses of associated with the consumption of these products.
