BC Ferries has announced two round-trip cancellations between Saltery Bay and Earls Cove terminals next month, and made changes to avoid two other previously announced cancellations.

To facilitate required annual service and regulatory inspection of the marine evacuation system onboard Malaspina Sky, the following sailings will not run:

• Saltery Bay scheduled departure on Saturday, September 10, at 9 pm
• Earls Cove scheduled departure on Saturday, September 10, at 10 pm

Customers are also advised that the following sailings have been cancelled on Saturday, September 17, to facilitate the required removal of one of the thrusters for planned maintenance and inspection.

• Saltery Bay scheduled departure at 9 pm
• Earls Cove scheduled departure at 10 pm

Previously announced cancellations for Friday, September 9, have been avoided, according to an email from Deborah Marshall, BC Ferries executive director, public affairs, on August 30.

"We’ve updated our plans to avoid sailing cancellations on a Friday, September 9," stated Marshall. "We’ve rescheduled to two Saturday nights – September 10 and 17, as we see lower traffic on Saturday nights. Therefore it will have least impact on our customers."
