Powell River Regional District directors endorsed a revised animal shelter service contribution agreement with the SPCA at the August board meeting. The revision addresses a change to which organization will pay for an independent audit. Instead of the SPCA shouldering the cost, estimated to be $3,000, the regional district will pay for the audit, which the regional district requested be done to verify its annual contribution was used solely for payment of eligible costs.
A staff report noted there is a large surplus going forward to 2013 as a result of the delayed opening of the facility. Part of the surplus could be put into a non-statutory reserve in 2013 to provide for possible future audit costs, staff recommended.
