Six grants-in-aid approved by City of Powell River Council

City of Powell River council has approved six grants-in-aid, totalling $25,000.

At the June 2 council meeting, councillors approved expenditures of $9,193 for Miklat Recovery Society; $7,354 for Powell River and District United Way; $5,697 for Lift Community Services qathet Community Justice program; $1,456 for qathet Symphony Orchestra; $1,226 for Everybody Deserves a Smile qathet; and $75 for Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164.

Councillor George Doubt said these are from the city’s $25,000 grant-in-aid budget.

“They are all good organizations,” added Doubt. “They all serve the community and they deserve the money.”

At the May 26 finance committee meeting, city chief financial officer Mallory Denniston outlined the requests.
