COLOURFUL SKIES: Monday and Tuesday of this week qathet residents enjoyed longer days and brilliant sunsets.

The qathet region has been going through another cold snap with today's temperature dipping to a low of minus five degrees Celsius, and hovering at two degrees for most of the afternoon.

Folks in the region experienced hail, rain, wind and snow over the weekend but yesterday and today, March 4 and 5, have been cold and sunny. Sunset is at 6:09 pm this evening.

According to the Weatherhood app top five ranking, Whistler, BC, is the coldest area at minus 13.9 degrees and qathet region as second coldest, at minus five. Gibsons on the lower Sunshine Coast is at minus 3.2 degrees today.

Wednesday and Thursday the temperature will hover around two degrees in the daytime and Thursday evening and Friday morning the region might see snow.

According to Environment Canada March 1 officially marked the start of meteorological spring.

The past couple of days residents on the Northern Sunshine Coast witnessed brilliant sunsets. Meteorologists for Environment Canada say the ingredients for a good sunset are: "High altitude cloud layers, especially with textures, clear, dry conditions in the lower atmosphere and a clear sky on the lower horizon, enabling the setting sun to shine onto the underside of the clouds."
