qathet Regional District's planning committee is recommending the board support the application to subdivide land in the agricultural land reserve (ALR) for a parcel at 10084 Nassichuk Road, based on consistency with a policy in Electoral Area C official community plan bylaw, which supports subdivision of ALR land to a minimum parcel size of two hectares.

At a March 1 meeting, the committee received a delegation from Debbie Duyvesteyn, from Coast Berry Company, advocating for the subdivision of the 17.2-hectare property into three lots, comprising 4.3, 9.7 and 3.2 hectares. According to a staff report, current farm uses include blueberry and strawberry fields, strawberry greenhouses, as well as grading, packaging and shipping berries grown on the farm.

The Agricultural Land Commission application process requires that the local government review the application under its land use bylaws prior to agricultural land commission consideration.
