Sunshine Music Festival board of directors president Marina Lagacé will be onstage as a backup singer with children's performer Madame B on Saturday, August 30, at Palm Beach Regional Park.
This will be the first time an act specifically for children will take place at the festival. The sing-along called Madame B Pirate Party will have a band of bilingual buccaneers on stage, featuring trombone, bass, ukulele, viola, voices and drums.
"A friend of mine from Victoria started that act, and I'm singing backup for her," said Lagacé. "I really wanted to get a kid's act on stage this year."
Kimara Brilling is an artist and French immersion teacher in Victoria. Her first album was produced in 2023 and she immediately started on the festival circuit.
"I have children myself, and then I'm also part of the little Francophone community here," said Lagacé. "I'm especially excited that Madam B is a bilingual, family friendly, kids-centric show; it's gonna be really fun."
She said the performance will include fun costumes and dance breaks for children of all ages.
"They have played a few different festivals in Victoria and the Gulf Islands, and so I've performed with them two or three times before," said Lagacé.
