A local business in the 4200 block of Joyce Avenue was broken into on the night of Monday, March 5.

Police responded to a break and enter alarm at 12:32 am and found the front door had been pried open. The owner told police that a safe containing a large amount of cash had been taken from the business.

Police responded to a similar break and enter on January 30 in the 6100 block of Lund Street. The door to that business was also pried open and a safe holding a large amount of cash was taken from inside.

Police have yet to determine if the cases are connected. Surveillance videos from both businesses are being reviewed by police in an attempt to identify suspects.

Business owners are being reminded by police to keep as little cash as necessary on hand and to ensure all safes are securely bolted to prevent similar robberies.

Anyone with information regarding the two break and enters is asked to contact Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255 or CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS).
