CHANGING HANDS: Tla’amin Nation hegus John Hackett [left], with Select Sand and Gravel owner Dan Stephens, has announced the acquisition of the sand and gravel company by Tla’amin Nation.

Tla’amin Nation has acquired Select Sand and Gravel from Dan Stephens to support its economy and protect jobs in the region.

According to a media release from the nation, Select Sand and Gravel currently provides more than 100,000 tonnes of sand and gravel a year to the qathet region construction industry and will be a cornerstone of Tla’amin’s $100 million infrastructure and housing strategy.

“Tla’amin Nation is laying the foundations of a bright and prosperous future for our members and the entire region,” stated hegus John Hackett. “Owning the largest sand and gravel supplier on the Sunshine Coast will help control costs as we transform the nation’s housing stock and infrastructure over the next decade.”

Stephens stated that he is very happy to see Tla’amin as the new owner.

“It is wonderful to see a local company take over our operations and continue to supply the Powell River area with a wide variety of quality sand and gravel products,” added Stephens, who established the company in 2009. 

The release stated that all current employees will be retained, and Stephens will remain with the company for several months to ensure a smooth transition for staff and existing clients.
