A 66-year-old driving a Dodge pick-up truck crashed into the galley ramp while boarding Malaspina Sky on Friday, June 6.

Powell River RCMP officers are investigating a single vehicle collision on board BC Ferries' Malaspina Sky, which operates on route 7 between Saltery Bay and Earls Cove terminals.

On Friday, June 6, at approximately 7:30 am, Powell River RCMP was notified that a pick-up truck had crashed into the galley ramp while loading onto the vessel. Police arrived to find a heavily damaged Dodge pick-up truck.

Initial evidence suggests the vehicle had a malfunctioning brake system, according to police. The 66-year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for improper brake performance, which carries a fine of $552.

No one was injured during this incident, according to a June 8 statement from corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for BC RCMP. Several sailings were delayed while the vehicle had to be removed and an inspection of the vessel took place to ensure its structural integrity.
