Two small wildfires burning east of Powell River are being fought, with one under control and the other being held.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, under control means a wildfire that will not spread any further due to suppression efforts. Being held means a wildfire that is not likely to spread beyond predetermined boundaries.
Coastal Fire Centre spokesperson Kimberly Kelly said fire V50556 at Walt Hill is listed as being held and fire V50557 at Duck Lake is listed as being under control. Kelly said both fires are less than a hectare in size and both fires are under investigation.
“There is no suspected cause at this point,” said Kelly.
She said there were resources deployed for both fires. There was an initial attack crew at Duck Lake, and two initial attack crews at Walt Hall, and they were being supported by other resources as well, such as an aviation resource.
Kelly said both fires are in mop-up stage.
