Waste disposal costs more

Fee structure undergoes revision

Passage of a Powell River Regional District bylaw will result in higher solid waste tipping fees.

At the Thursday, May 28, board meeting, regional directors gave three readings and assent to Bylaw 402.5, providing for the increase.

The bylaw allows for an increase to the tipping fees for municipal solid waste and to the construction and demolition waste effective Monday, June 1, 2015. The increase to the construction and demolition waste reflects an administration charge by the regional district to recover costs associated with tracking construction and demolition waste as per ministry of environment requirements.

The following fees applied as of June 1:

• Municipal solid waste $215 per tonne.

• Construction and demolition waste $220 per tonne.

• A minimum charge of $5 shall apply to all waste loads.

The scale at Augusta Recyclers’ transfer site will determine the weight of waste on which fees will be levied.
