Westview terminal closure redirects ferry traffic

Reminderissued to clarify route changes
Westview terminal closure redirects ferry traffic

BC Ferries’ Little River (Comox) and Westview (Powell River) terminals will be temporarily closed January 12, 2014 while marine structures are upgraded or replaced. Alternative ferry service will be provided during the scheduled dock closures. Little River terminal is scheduled to re-open February 8, 2014 and Westview terminal is scheduled to re-open March 10, 2014.

During the closures, alternative routes will be in effect between Powell River (Saltery Bay) and Vancouver Island (Departure Bay) and Texada Island and Saltery Bay. In addition, a water taxi between Texada Island Boat Club and Powell River will operate to help off-set the inconvenience.

Water taxis schedules were designed to take into account capacity suited to match historical traffic patterns and will operate whenever possible on the same schedule as the regular ferry service, and can be viewed online.

In cases where demand is high, BC Ferries will add additional service to prevent excessive passenger delays. Check-in and ticketing procedures will be established at both sites for the water taxi service. BC Ferries regular foot passenger fares will apply.

Limited parking will be available at the terminals and customers will be provided with ground shuttles, free parking and coordination with local transit.

Limited flight service between Powell River and the Comox area will also be available during the Little River closure; reservations must be made by calling 1.888.BC FERRY (1.888.223.3779).

BC Ferries is investing $30 million at Little River and Westview terminals to ensure continued safe and reliable service. A significant portion of the work has been completed pre-closure to minimize the length of the service interruption. In addition to the investment at the terminals, BC Ferries is introducing a new intermediate class ferry on the route in 2016.

Customers are advised to check specific information related to their travel plans on BC Ferries’ website or by calling 1.888.BC FERRY (1.888.223.3779). Customers requesting assistance with travel planning outside of the alternative service provided should contact [email protected].
