Yesterday, the weather took a quick turn, bringing thunder/lightning, wind and heavy rain to the qathet region, but only briefly in the afternoon.
Currently the Weatherhood app is indicating qathet is ranked as the hottest region today, Thursday, July 25, at 21.5 degrees Celsius. Whistler is ranked as second warmest, at 21.4 degrees and Sechelt, on the lower Sunshine Coast, is ranked third, at 20.6 degrees. This evening the wind is picking up to 12.7 kilometres an hour.
The wildfire season has picked up momentum in BC and according to BC Wildfire Service, currently, 423 active wildfires are burning. Coastal regions have been fairly lucky so far, with little wildfire activity, however, the Coastal Fire Centre is indicating that there was a small wildfire (0.2 hectares) detected near Sakina Lake, just south of Ruby Lake, at Ruggles Cove, that is under control. It is thought to be human-caused and was discovered July 24.
