It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mom, Amelia (Dolly) Hassett, on August 18, 2023, at the age of 98. She was born Amelia O'Neil in Ireland on October 12, 1924.
Dolly married Thomas Hassett on October 11, 1948, in Vancouver. They settled in Powell River and raised their six sons.
Mom was an avid dart player and enjoyed her bingo. After being widowed at the age of 54 and losing her youngest son four years later, she quit smoking cold turkey and started walking. She continued her walking to the ripe age of 95! She was a strong, determined woman who also had time to make anyone a cup of coffee and share her butter tarts.
Dolly was predeceased by her husband Tom on April 13, 1978, and son Tommy on April 25, 1982. Left to mourn her are her sons and their families: John (Iris), Michael, Joe (Rita), James (Lois) and Mark (Monica); 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff on the fourth floor of qathet General Hospital and the staff at Evergreen Extended Care for taking such good care of our mom.
There will be a service at Stubberfield Funeral Home on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 1 pm.
