Carole Ann McCormick (Thomson), BSC Pharmacy, passed away peacefully January 22, 18:23 hours, at Hillingdon Hospital in London at the age of 68. She is survived by husband Douglas McCormick, daughter Nicole (Kyle) Allward, son James (Laura) McCormick, father Stuart Thomson, father-in-law Clement McCormick, twin sister Cheryle (Curtis) Beaumont, sister Charlotte (Tom) Holcroft, brother Ryan Thomson, and the pride and joy of her life, grandchildren Claire and Grace Allward and Owen, Rachel and Rebecca McCormick.

Carole was born and spent her childhood and youth at Nicomen Island and Mission, BC. High school sweethearts (early grade 10), Carole and Doug attended the University of British Columbia and married August 23, 1975. They spent three years in the married residence, and in May 1978, Carole obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. On graduation, Carole accepted a job at Westview Drugs, working for Merv Koszman and Doug Henry, with a promise to stay for one year.

Carole and husband Doug immediately fell in love with the community, the people and the lifestyle. Powell River became her home.

Carole eventually owned and operated Westview Pharmacy. She retired from pharmacy in February 2020.

Carole spent Christmas with Doug, Nicole, Kyle, Claire and Grace and travelled on to Scotland, where she contracted Influenza A, followed by Strep Pneumonia, which led to

neutropenic sepsis. Daughter Nicole and husband Doug were with her immediately before she passed. Son James visited the week before but had to leave as he became ill and could no longer visit.

Her passions were her children and grandchildren, her garden, her clients at Westview Pharmacy and the ladies she worked with, her faith in God, Faith Lutheran Church, the Powell River Kings and travelling. She and Doug travelled the world together, always excited to be planning the next expedition.

Carole provided a beautiful home - warm, welcoming and loving. She enjoyed making amazing meals for her family, relatives, friends and all the hockey billets that became part of the McCormick family. She was the consummate professional in her field, a trusted leader at Faith Lutheran and a devoted supporter of the Powell River community.

She was a lifelong companion and partner to her husband, Doug, and a beloved mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Funeral service and celebration of life to be held later this spring when her garden will be in full bloom. For those who have asked, the family’s charity of choice is the Powell River Hospital Foundation.
