Marlene Ruth Rempel passed away peacefully at the age of 71. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on March 14, 1952, and later settled in Abbotsford, BC, where she raised her family and had a career as a receptionist until the unfortunate decline in her eyesight, at which point her journey took a different direction.

In 2012, she made the move to Powell River for a slower pace of life. Marlene loved living in Powell River, being close to the ocean and the small-town community. Marlene enjoyed volunteering with seniors, playing Scrabble with her friends and going out dancing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and entertaining friends and family with wonderful food, drinks and music. Marlene was always singing and was never without music playing.

Marlene leaves behind her daughters Marci Duncan (Ryan) and Carina Rempel (Joel Gagnon); grandchildren Talon and Ryder Duncan and Cailie and Sydney Gagnon; close friends and siblings Joanne, Lydia, Irene, Walter and Jim; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank and extend appreciation to the wonderful staff in house 5 at Willingdon Creek Village for all their care, compassion and support over the past year and a half. Thank you to Dr. De Flamingh for his care. Thank you to her private care providers prior to her move to the care home, and a special thanks to Powell River Hospice for being by Marlene’s side during her last days, providing love and support to both Marlene and her family.

No service by request. A "party," as requested by Marlene, will be held at a later date.

Be free, Mom. You will be missed and forever loved.
