It is with great sadness that we inform you Una passed away on the morning of July 26 at the Chemainus Health Care Centre.

Una lived a full life growing up in London, England, and after losing her mother at the young age of 11, she and her young sister Maureen (predeceased in 2022) were raised by their father and both their parents’ families.

Una met Helmut in 1950, married soon after and moved to Canada in 1952. Their life in Canada was not easy, however, through hard work and not being afraid to make changes or move to better their life (Revelstoke, Vancouver, Kamloops, Clearwater, Courtenay, Cache Creek, Ashcroft, Powell River and Nanaimo, with multiple homes in some of those communities), they created a beautiful and loving large family of five children, 17 grandchildren and 26 (and counting) great-grandchildren.

Una’s biggest passion was her family, with her smile lighting up anytime one of her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren were in the room. She knew and remembered them all and their birthdays right until her final days. The love was mutual, which showed in the emotions of all when announcing her passing.

Anyone who knew Una knows she cared about all, never wanted to see anyone sad and only spoke kind words. She is greatly missed.

Una was predeceased by her husband Helmut Godau (2014) and is survived by her daughter Simone Loewen (Al), sons Michael (Kristina), Paul (Leslie), Peter (Leah) and Tim (Jackie), and the 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

“We love you, Mum, and your personality and memories will guide us forever.”

A celebration of life for Una will be held next spring/summer in Ashcroft, BC. If you wish to know when this is, please reach out to one of Una’s five children.
