Aces meet tough competition

Brooks Secondary School gymnasium was full of spectators and players on Sunday, February 26 for the U13-U14 Powell River Volleyball Club’s home tournament.

Two U14 Nanaimo teams, an U14 Comox squad and an U13 Sunshine Coast (Sechelt-Gibsons) team joined an U14 Powell River team (based out of Oceanview Middle School) and three U13 teams: team Diana, team Lisa and team Allison.

In pool play, team Diana edged out Powell River U14s to take first place in pool B. Team Lisa and Nanaimo (U14-Tony) placed third and fourth respectively. Nanaimo placed first in pool A and Sunshine Coast second. Comox and Team Allison placed third and fourth.

Playoffs had Nanaimo (Shawna) place first, Sunshine Coast second and Team Diana third.

Coach Doug Skinner said U13 Aces players Chloe Elzer from team Allison, Matilda Bertrand and Claudia Piccinin from team Lisa and Lauren Mander and Katie Tuba from team Diana all played well.

Two Aces teams will attend the next playday tournament for the U13s on Sunday, March 4 in Port Alberni.
