Brooks Secondary School hosts cross country meet

RACE RUNNERS: Members of the Brooks Secondary School cross country team continue to practice for upcoming events.

A cross country meet hosted by Brooks Secondary School on Wednesday, September 27, started out in rainy weather, which stopped before the event concluded.

Participating students came to the qathet region from six North Island schools in Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Gold River and Courtenay. A total of 111 runners competed in the afternoon races that followed a loop that started at Willingdon Beach.

The Brooks team is coached by Graham Cocksedge and Tony Rice, who organized the meet.

Results for local students were: Grade 8 Girls – Tea Nordman, second; Junior Girls – Nelle Liefsoens, second; Adianta Cocksedge-Hamilton, seventh; Junior Boys – Russell O’Donnell, seventh; Joseph Dominelli, 14th; Marshall Jepson, 16th; Adam Bellafyuih, 21st; Harper Morton, 22nd; Fin Gow-Hignall, 24th; Hayden Morrison, 25th; Senior Boys – Quinn Carlson, sixth; Ethan Hull, seventh; Jakob Babcock, ninth; Constantine Kreutz, 15th; Tristan Morrison, 21st.

Two more meets are scheduled in the next two weeks, on October 4 at Alberni District Secondary School and October 12 at Highland Secondary School in Comox.
