Powell River Kings had the night off on Friday, March 18, and watched their slim hold on a playoff spot slip away, temporarily at least.

Cowichan Valley Capitals skated to a 6-2 win over Victoria Grizzlies to move one point ahead of the Kings for the eighth and final playoff spot in BC Hockey League (BCHL) Coastal Conference standings. After posting the road win, the Capitals have one game remaining in the regular season, at home against Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday, March 19.

Powell River has two more games to play, in Chilliwack March 19 (7 pm) and Surrey the following afternoon (2 pm).

Nanaimo is currently third in the conference, two points ahead of fourth-place Chilliwack. Surrey is locked into sixth place, four points behind Victoria and eight ahead of Coquitlam Express, who lead the Capitals by 10 and the Kings by 11.

Kings will need to win at least once to secure a postseason berth, possibly twice, depending on the result of the Capitals/Clippers game tonight.
