Paxton Schreiber's late third period goal at Kerry Park Arena on February 17 vaulted Powell River U18 Kings into the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) Tier 3 championship series, which gets underway this weekend at Hap Parker Arena.

Schreiber also assisted on Evan Piniewski's second goal of the game 3:21 into the third period, giving the Kings a 3-1 lead. However, the home team battled back, scoring two goals in just under a minute to even the score at three goals apiece with 6:45 remaining on the clock. The game remained tied until Schreiber's winner with just over three minutes to play.

Piniewski opened the scoring early in the second period, assisted by Noah Culos. U18 Islanders briefly tied the score, but Liam Carroll restored the lead for the visitors before intermission.

Nic Baggaley picked up the win in goal, which included denying a second period penalty shot.

U18 Kings host U18 Oceanside Generals in game one of the best-of-three VIAHA final series on Saturday, February 24. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:15 pm.

Games two and three (if necessary) will take place at Oceanside Place Arena on March 2 (1:15 pm) and March 3 (1:30 pm).

The two teams met during the first playoff round in the final game of a four-team round-robin, with the Generals edging the Kings 2-1.
