Forward Kristians Samitis will join Powell River Kings this weekend after signing with the BC Hockey League club.

Another new player has been added to the Powell River Kings’ lineup. The BC Hockey League club announced the signing of 2003-born forward Kristians Samitis on January 25.

Samitis, who is from Riga, Latvia, has spent the last two seasons playing for the Philadelphia Rebels of the North American Hockey League. This season he has scored 12 goals and added eight assists in 37 games.

Samitis is six-feet, four inches tall. In addition to added size, he will be another veteran presence on a young team, according to assistant general manager Stephan Seeger Jr.

“He has a very large frame and an unapologetically hard shot,” stated Seeger Jr. “Being 20 years old he will bring maturity to our locker room and a young forward group. We are very happy that Kristians is a King.”

Samantis has also represented his home country on the world stage, playing in the 2021 World U18 Championships and the 2023 World Junior Hockey Championships in Halifax. He will make his Kings’ debut this weekend at home versus Nanaimo Clippers on Friday, January 26 (7 pm), and Saturday, January 27 (5 pm).
