Many chances lead to just one goal

Powell River United over 35 football club stepped onto the Timberlane Park pitch Sunday to play against a visiting team from Courtenay in its second game of the season.

United was looking to regain its form after a loss the previous weekend.

The game started with United coming out strong and doing well, keeping possession of the ball and moving it around the pitch.

United was rewarded with its hard work when Tony Carroll buried the ball into the back of the net giving the home team a 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Courtenay play better soccer and gain a bit of the possession from United, but it was stopped from any chances on net until a visiting player broke free and took a perfectly placed shot under the bar beating goalie Rick Bombardir.

Both teams battled to the end with United being unlucky not to have one of many good chances go into the net. Final score ended with a 1-1 tie.

United’s next game is on the road this weekend against Qualicum.
