Martial arts season concludes

Students receive black belts

Nine students from Powell River Canadian Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) recently travelled to Ontario for their last competition of the season. Each member competed in three categories: forms, weapons and fighting. Twenty-seven medals were brought back home together with a championship trophy.

Results are as follows:

Kolten Laine: gold in forms, weapons and fighting.

Ryan Schmeister: gold in forms and weapons, silver in fighting.

Craig Long: gold in forms, silver in weapons and fighting.

Erin Broughton: gold in forms, weapons and fighting.

Miranda Clutterbuck: silver in forms, weapons and fighting.

McKenna Long: gold in forms and fighting, bronze in weapons.

Olivia Southern: gold in weapons, silver in forms and fighting.

Sawyer Long: gold in fighting, bronze in forms and weapons.

Tanya Olsen: gold in forms and weapons, silver in fighting, winner of the grand championship trophy.

CMAA is delighted to announce that Olsen has now received her black belt, together with Ashley Peckford, Gary Needham and Jake Zaikow.
