Final preparations are in the works for the Atmosphere Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race (MOMAR), set to take place in Cumberland, BC this coming Saturday, September 24. Around 400 racers and volunteers will attend from near and far including a mother and daughter twosome from Powell River, Wanda Griffioen and Anamieke Tataryn.
Griffioen and Tataryn, team Footprints, will be the second team in MOMAR’s history consisting of mother and daughter. “We love it that the MOMAR brings together family members who share the same passions,” said Bryan Tasaka, race director. “Typically, team members inspire each other to do the best they can, which can be a great relationship-building exercise.”
The majority of racers will be travelling to Cumberland from cities and towns throughout BC, across Canada and the United States, and from as far away as Spain.
In addition to its typical 50-kilometre sprint race, MOMAR offers a short course that will provide less seasoned racers with an opportunity to participate in a world-class adventure race. Both the enduro (50-kilometre) course and short (30-kilometre) course will include mountain biking, kayaking, trail running, orienteering and bushwhacking.
The finish line is located at Cumberland Lake Park Campground from 1 to 5 pm, and spectators are encouraged to come out to cheer on the athletes.
Participating in a MOMAR event, either as a racer or volunteer, also means supporting MOMAR’s official charity, the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Readers interested in finding out more about MOMAR can call 1.866.912.3331.
