Nanaimo Clippers double up on Powell River Kings

Nanaimo Clippers turned the tables on Powell River Kings on Saturday, January 28, twenty-four hours after losing to the same team.

Clippers defeated the visiting Kings 6-3 at Frank Crane Arena to even the weekend series at one win each.

Adam Mendelson, who was named third star of the game behind two Nanaimo players, scored a pair of goals early in the second period for Powell River, briefly tying the game 2-2. Nanaimo restored the two-goal lead garnered in the first period with two more goals prior to the second intermission.

Clippers went ahead 5-2 in the third period before Ryder Ringor scored unassisted for the Kings. The home team later closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Powell River outshot Nanaimo 38-26. Attendance was 1,587.

Kings’ forward Alex Van Houtte-Cachero set up two goals while teammate Noah Eyre recorded one helper in the game.

Powell River travels to Vancouver Island again next weekend for games in Victoria (February 3) and Cowichan (February 4).
