Nanaimo Clippers edge Powell River Kings in overtime

Teams combine for nine goals in 5-4 win for the home team

Andrew Noel’s power play goal 1:01 into overtime on January 28 gave Nanaimo Clippers their eighth win in as many games over Powell River Kings since the start of the 2021/2022 BC Hockey League (BCHL) season.

Ethan Riesterer and Hunter Andrew scored first period goals for the visiting Kings, who led 2-1 after 20 minutes. Clippers knotted the score at two in the second period.

Nanaimo took a pair of leads in period three, but Powell River came back shortly afterward on each occasion. After the home team capitalized on a power play at 7:08, Anthony Lucarelli notched his ninth of the season to tie the game 3-3.

Clippers regained the lead at 12:26, then Kaleb Nelson forced overtime less than three minutes later with his fifth goal for the Kings.

Maxim Potvin, Karter McNarland, Dylan Finlay, Casey Aman and Jason Marsella had assists for Powell River, while Zak Brice stopped 42 of the 47 shots he faced. Kings directed 36 shots at Clippers’ goalie Jed Baliotti.

Attendance at Frank Crane Arena was 1300.

Powell River travels to Victoria for its next two games, January 29 (7 pm) and 30 (1 pm) at the Q Centre.
