Powell River U18 Kings faced Nanaimo on Saturday, January 7, in their first of two weekend road games on Vancouver Island.

Nanaimo scored the eventual game-winning goal midway through the first period while shorthanded and added an insurance marker in the third period for a 2-0 win.

In their first game in nearly a month, Kings started slowly and relied on a strong goaltending performance from Josh McCormick to remain in striking distance of the hosts at Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Powell River's offensive players started creating multiple scoring chances in the second period and continued to press for the tying goal in the final frame, but each attempt was turned aside by McCormick's counterpart, who was equally impressive on the night.

After the game, Powell River travelled to Victoria in order to face Juan de Fuca on Sunday, January 8.
