Participants swim to glory

Swimmer comes first in three disciplines

Swimmers and coaches from Powell River Special Olympics attended a Vancouver Island regional swim meet in Comox recently.

After an exciting ride on the ferry, volunteers from Comox Valley Special Olympics took the participants to the pool. New coaches Diane Leaman and Laurie Norman, together with head swim coach Susan Storry, were on hand to watch as Powell River swimmers did very well.

Erika Barker won first in 200-metre freestyle, 200-metre individual medley and 200-metre backstroke. She came second in 100-metre backstroke.

Lance Barker won first in 50-metre and 100-metre breaststroke, second in 100-metre backstroke and third in 100-metre freestyle.

Peter Cossarin won first in 50-metre freestyle and second in 50-metre backstroke.

Janet Robertson came second in 25-metre backstroke, and third in both 25-metre freestyle and 25-metre butterfly.

Robert Soumang won first in 25-metre freestyle and second in 25-metre breaststroke.

Thomas White came third in 25-metre freestyle.
