Representing his home town is nothing new for Hunter Findlater. After honing his on-ice skills in the Powell River Minor Hockey Association system and spending two seasons with North Island Silvertips of the BC Elite Hockey League, Findlater spent four full BC Hockey League (BCHL) seasons as a regular in the Powell River Kings’ lineup.

From 2014 to 2018, he played 211 regular season games in the BCHL and appeared in 42 playoff games, all in the city he was born and raised in. In his final season, the Kings won the BCHL Island Division championship.

When asked what he considered to be his career highlight, Findlater said, “being able to play out my entire junior career at home in front of family and friends.”

He said his dad, Tyler, who also played in the BCHL and spent more than a decade as a goaltender for Powell River Regals in the late 1980s and 1990s, had the biggest influence on his development as a player. In addition to following in his father’s footsteps as a member of the Regals, he has the opportunity to win a Coy Cup provincial championship, which Tyler accomplished with the Regals in 1993.

As for his favourite players to watch, Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby are at the top of Hunter’s list. When not on the ice, he works in the plumbing and heating industry. The 2023/2024 season is his first with the Regals, who host Coy Cup 2024 from March 26 to 30.

Teams from Penticton, Williams Lake and Terrace will compete with the tournament hosts for the coveted trophy, which is emblematic of senior AA hockey supremacy in BC. Coy Cup tickets are available at the Peak, TAWS and Royal LePage-Powell River.

Regals face Nanaimo Steelmen on the road in game four of the McCallum Cup West Coast Senior Hockey championship series on Friday, March 15. Regals lead the best-of-five series two games to one. Game five, if necessary, also takes place in the Vancouver Island city (March 16).
