Fourteen years after winning the Coy Cup with Powell River Regals, Trevor Burnett has his sights set on hoisting the trophy with his teammates again in 2024.

Powell River will host Coy Cup 2024, competed for by senior AA teams in BC, with regional winners from Penticton, Williams Lake and Terrace joining the home team at the tournament from March 26 to 30.

Burnett spent his development years in the Powell River Minor Hockey system and later played junior hockey for Kerry Park in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League, along with beginning his career with the Regals. He credits former coach Rick Hopper for having the most influence on his evolution as a player.

His favourite player to watch growing up was hockey hall of famer Paul Kariya. When he is not playing a hockey game or practicing, Burnett works on a tugboat and manages a slow-pitch softball team.

Burnett and the Regals will be looking to bounce back from losses in games four and five of the McCallum Cup West Coast Senior Hockey championship last weekend. Nanaimo Steelmen came back from a two games to one deficit and won the best-of-five series with home wins on March 15 (5-2) and March 16 (9-3). Regals won games two and three at Hap Parker Arena earlier this month.

Coy Cup tickets are available at the Peak, TAWS and Royal LePage-Powell River.
