Mid-Island Steelmen goaltender Riley Medves stops a shot off the stick of Powell River Regals' defender Wyatt Trumbley (34) during a senior AA hockey game at Hap Parker Arena on November 18.

Powell River Regals posted a pair of wins over the visiting Mid-Island Steelmen at home on Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18. Both teams are preparing to compete for the 2024 Coy Cup. BC’s senior men’s AA hockey championship tournament will take place in late March at Hap Parker Arena.

November 18: Regals 6 - Steelmen 2
Six different goal-scorers found the back of the net in the Regals' 6-2 win in the second of the two weekend games. Chad Niddery, Isaac Embree, Travis Granbois, Bekkam Willis, Dane Feeney and Cohen Mastrodonato each scored for the home team, which led 2-0 after 20 minutes and 4-2 following 40 minutes of play. Laszlo Tomasik was the winning goaltender.

"Cohen scored his first as a Regal," said coach Tod English. "It was a great goal."

November 17: Regals 7 - Steelmen 2
Regals also held Mid-Island to two goals in game one and scored seven of their own (Niddery, Jack Long, Matteo Porchetta, Jared Winkel, Embree, Granbois and Nick Porchetta) en route to a decisive victory. Ryan Fairgray picked up the win in goal, while former Regals' goalie Riley Medves made 55 saves for the Steelemen.

"Both of our goalies played well and our puck movement and control was in fine form," said English. "We dominated with puck possession all weekend but Medves had the game of a lifetime on Friday, and put in a similar performance on Saturday."

Regals travel to Penticton this weekend for games against the Silver Bullets on November 24 and 25. The teams split a pair of games at Hap Parker Arena last month.
