Powell River U11 Kings earn bronze medal at home tournament

Host club finishes third with win over Sunshine Coast

Powell River U11C Kings hosted a minor hockey tournament from February 3 to 5 at Hap Parker Arena. 

In addition to the home team, the event featured hockey clubs from Sunshine Coast, North Shore and two from Comox Valley.

Powell River lost its first game in round-robin play on Friday against Comox Valley 3/4 by a score of 7-2 and tied its second game 2-2 early Saturday morning against Comox Valley 2. The team then rallied, winning the following two games over North Shore (11-1) and Sunshine Coast (8-2).

The hosts entered the final round tied in points for second with Comox Valley 3/4. Due to the result between the two teams in the round-robin, Comox Valley 3/4 advanced to the gold medal game while Powell River moved on to play for the bronze medal against Sunshine Coast Blues.

Powell River outscored the Blues 6-3 on Sunday, February 5, to win the bronze.

Comox Valley 2 defeated Comox Valley 3/4 in the gold medal game.

U11C Kings will travel to Comox Valley for its next tournament from March 3 to 5, 2023.
