A goal by Tyler Durant with 1:06 remaining in the third period lifted Powell River U18 Kings into a 4-4 tie versus North Island Eagles in Port Hardy on Sunday, January 28.

The first round Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association playoff game was a see-saw affair featuring multiple lead changes. Paxton Shreiber opened the scoring in the first period, giving Powell River a 1-0 lead, which lasted just over a minute before North Island tied the score 1-1.

Both teams were then scoreless until the final minute of the second period. Eagles took the lead 39 seconds before the period ended, but Kings' forward Ben Belyea scored 33 seconds later to erase the deficit.

Noah Culos gave Powell River its second lead of the game midway through the final frame, but the visitors gave up two goals to trail 4-3 before the heroics from Durant ended the game in a tie.

Belyea, Durant, Shreiber and Beau Jameson Gagne recorded assists for the U18 Kings, who travel to Port Alberni for their next playoff game on February 3. The team hosts Oceanside in postseason play on Saturday, February 10 (3:30 pm).
