Powell River Villa moved into a tie for eighth place in Vancouver Island Soccer League Division 1 standings by drawing Lakehill FC at Braefoot Park in Victoria on Saturday, January 27.

Billy Bagiopoulos scored all three goals for Villa, including five minutes into the match, which gave the visitors their only lead. Lakehill equalized at the 11-minute mark and took a 2-1 lead 20 minutes later. Bagiopoulos replied shortly thereafter to make it 2-2 prior to halftime.

After the break, Lakehill converted a penalty kick at 69 minutes to take a second lead, but Bagiopoulos secured a single point for Villa with his hat-trick goal 11 minutes before regular time came to an end for a 3-3 final.

"It was a great effort Saturday by the team to get a much-needed road point," said Villa manager Chris Mc Donough. "And obviously an impressive game by Billy Bagiopoulos scoring the hat-trick."

Not only did the point bring Villa even with Victoria Highlanders in the standings, it moved the club three points clear of last place Westhill International Academy. Lakehill sits in fourth place, nine points ahead of Villa.

Villa is at seventh place Nanaimo United on Saturday, February 10, and will be looking to close a five point gap between the two clubs.
