Carl joined Powell River Villa for the last half of the 2018/2019 Vancouver Island Soccer League season and helped the club garner promotion to the league's top flight.

Carl grew up in Powell River, playing soccer from the age of five.

Playing winger and midfield in his younger years, it wasn’t until he gained some size and moved to the back line that he really came into his stride. In his teens, he played for Red Lion Soccer Club in the Powell River Senior Men’s Soccer League.

After moving to the Lower Mainland in 2002, Carl played for various indoor and outdoor clubs including Delta United, Club Ararat, West Coast Express, Richmond Club Inter and Richmond All Blacks. He had a successful six-year run with the All Blacks in the Richmond Premier League, winning various league and cup titles, topped by the Adult Provincial B-cup Championship in 2013.

Following his move back to Powell River in late 2018, Carl joined the Powell River Villa squad for the last half of the 2018/2019 season, including for the club’s promotion to Vancouver Island Soccer League’s Division 1.

Playing stopper or sweeper in the middle of the back line has allowed him to use his size and put his tackling skills to good use, although his teammates would prefer that it happens outside of the 18-yard box!

Splitting time between family, work, soccer and mountain biking has been a challenge as of late, but Carl says he enjoys every moment on the pitch and wants to help Villa grow and develop so he can pass the torch to the younger generation.

Villa recently completed its 2021/2022 season and will return to Division 1 for the 2022/2023 campaign.
