Jamie Zroback took home the top prize in the Peak’s World Cup of Soccer contest.
By choosing 14 correct placements in the final group stage standings, Zroback matched the combined total achieved by a panel of experts (six Powell River Villa members plus Canadian Para Soccer National Team player Duncan McDonald and Powell River Sports Hall of Fame member Drew Ferguson) who predicted the results of one group each for entrants to try to match or beat. No other entrant reached that total.
In addition to four passes to future Powell River Villa Vancouver Island Soccer League matches, four Patricia Theatre movie passes and a $100 gift certificate to the Forest Bistro & Lounge, Zroback also won a one year subscription to the Peak.
The FIFA World Cup of Soccer final will be played on Sunday, December 18, beginning at 7 am. Argentina will face France in the championship match.
For tiebreaker purposes in the Peak pool, which in the end was not needed, Ferguson predicted Argentina would beat France in the final. Four other experts also picked Argentina to win the tournament.
Zroback chose France to beat Brazil in the final. Brazil was eliminated by Croatia in the quarter-final round.
