The Dawson Creek Senior Canucks are off to the 2022 Coy Cup, after a convincing 9-0 decision over the Powell River Regals Saturday night.

The neutral site game, played down in Merritt, ended a three-team playoff between the Canucks, Regals, and the Rossland Warriors to determine who will play the Central Interior Hockey League champion for the cup.

"We knew the task was to take care of business tonight and not let it go to a deciding game Sunday," said team captain Jeff Taylor, whose team only had to win one of the two weekend games against the Regals to clinch the Coy Cup match-up.

"I think after we fell flat in our last game in Rossland, our sense of urgency was there for us (tonight) and we came out flying."

Taylor credits the team's 'fire power' and goaltending for the result.

Alex Hanson led the team with four goals, Wes Shipton and Max McNeil added two goals each, and Brett Norman rounded out the scoring with a single.

Canucks goalie Kenton White earned the shutout turning aside some 40 shots in the game.

"All around a great game by our team," said Taylor from the dressing room after the game.

Dawson Creek will now wait to see who becomes the CIHL champion. The Central Interior final will be between the Quesnel Kangaroos and the Terrace River Kings. Regardless of who wins the title, the Canucks will travel to that community and play a best-of-three playoff for the big prize.

Game one is scheduled for Fri., Mar. 25, game two will follow on the Saturday night and, if necessary, a third and deciding game would be played on Sunday, the 27th.
