Third period comeback snaps losing streak for Powell River Kings

Powell River Kings snapped a six-game losing streak by edging Trail Smoke Eaters 2-1 on Saturday, October 22.

The BC Hockey League (BCHL) game at Cominco Arena in Trail was scoreless through 40 minutes, then the home team finally broke the deadlock by converting on its fourth and final power play of the night to take a one goal lead 5:57 into the third period.

Kings’ forwards Cameron Symons and Anthony Lucarelli combined to set up Colin MacDougall’s second goal of the season four minutes later at 9:45, and Parker Lalonde did the same on Branden Toye’s game winning goal at 13:51.

Both teams had four power play opportunities, with Trail scoring once with the extra attacker and Powell River going zero for four.

Kyle Metson made 31 saves for the Kings, who outshot the Smoke Eaters by a margin of 42-32. Metson was named second star behind Toye and ahead of his counterpart Teagan Kendrick.

Attendance was 1,509.

Powell River travelled to Trail after a loss in Cranbrook 24 hours earlier.
