CALGARY — Canadian Olympic speedskaters Gilmore Junio, Kaylin Irvine and Marsha Hudey announced their retirements on Wednesday.
Junio, from Calgary, won 12 World Cup medals over the course of his 12-year career, including seven in the 500 metres and five in the team sprint.
He represented Canada at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Junio made headlines at the 2014 Sochi Games when he gave his spot in the 1,000-metre final to teammate Denny Morrison, who had missed qualifying in that event after a fall at the Canadian trials.
Morrison went on to win a silver medal in the event.
Calgary's Irvine made her World Cup debut during the 2011-12 and won a world championship silver and two World Cup bronze medals in team sprint.
She represented Canada at the 2014 and 2018 Olympics.
Hudey, from White City, Sask., captured three World Cup medals over the course of her career, including two bronze in team sprint and one silver in the 500.
She skated for Canada at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Games.
