Letter: Facts matter

Steven Grover’s letter illustrates the irony of some people claiming a lack of transparency and information, all the while ignoring information publicly available if it does not suit their own agenda [“ Blame game ,” March 25].
Powell River letter

Steven Grover’s letter illustrates the irony of some people claiming a lack of transparency and information, all the while ignoring information publicly available if it does not suit their own agenda [“Blame game,” March 25].

The map provided to City of Powell River Council and to the public in the Peak clearly shows the proposed 10-acre parcel is adjacent to Marine Avenue and nowhere near the shoreline, yet some persist in referring to it as waterfront.

A current appraisal of this specific parcel of raw, unserviced land confirmed the proposed sale reflected fair market value, yet Mr. Grover chooses not to believe it. He goes on to allege that this is an “offshore education business,” ignoring the fact that the couple behind Sino Bright Investments, a Canadian company, have been Canadian citizens since 1992.

He questions whether the community wants such students, yet this initiative was in fact promoted both by city and School District 47, reflecting official policy.

To some people it would appear facts just don’t matter.
