Travellers planning trips between Powell River and Vancouver may face delays over the Canada Day long weekend.

According to a BC Ferries media release on Wednesday, June 26, Queen of Coquitlam will be out of service for one week. As a result, BC Ferries is advising customers that the route will be extremely busy from Thursday, June 27 through Tuesday, July 2.

Unexpected mechanical issues with Queen of Coquitlam’s propeller blades led to cancellation of its three to four round trips per day.

Queen of Surrey is the primary vessel for the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route, providing eight round trips per day.

BC Ferries has added the following sailings to assist travellers:

June 27

• 7:30 pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale (Queen of Cowichan)

• 8:30 pm sailing from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay (Queen of Cowichan)

June 28, 29, July 2

 June 28

• 11:50 pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale (Queen of Cowichan)

In addition to the extra sailings, operational teams will monitor traffic levels over the long weekend. BC Ferries has the ability to add extra service at the end of the night if the need arises. For more information, go to bcferries.com.
