qathet Regional District sets meeting rules

Public attendance will not be permitted
qathet Regional District

In the COVID-19 era, qathet Regional District (qRD) meetings will be closed to the public attending in person.

At the July 30 regional board meeting, directors adopted a recommendation stipulating board and public participation in meetings during COVID-19. The resolution applies to all regional district board and standing committee meetings in conjunction while the provincial government’s ministerial order M192, declared on June 17, 2020, remains in effect.

qRD and standing committee meetings will continue to be held for directors using a combination of in-person, telephone and other electronic means, with the regional district boardroom as the meeting place. Due to space limitations in the boardroom, the public is not permitted to attend physically.

The recommendation states that to ensure openness, transparency, accessibility and accountability in respect to the meetings, several provisions will be made.

One is that the public will be able to see or hear open board and standing committee meetings via live webcasting accessed through the qRD website. Recordings are archived and available through the website.

Members of the public who wish to appear as a delegation will be invited to participate via telephone or other electronic means. The public will also be encouraged to provide written correspondence in advance of the meeting to be included in the agenda.
