Kathleen Elizabeth (Peggy) Bird, July 21, 1923 – April 9, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom Kathleen Elizabeth (Peggy) Bird. Mom passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 89 years young. Predeceased by her loving husband for 65 years Duncan and daughter Marnie Graham, she will be greatly missed by her sons Bill (Nancy), Richie (Linda), Peter (Helena), Tom (Letha) and her best son-in-law Gord Graham. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Michael (Vicki), Bryant (Angel), Stephen (Courteney), Kristin (Dennis), David (Michelle), Andy (Breanne), Elmer (Jolene), Charlie (Cassandra), Mickey, and Katie, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Born in Edmonton, Mom came to Powell River in 1945 as a new war bride. Life was quite a change for a city girl to the country life with no running water or indoor plumbing, but Mom was able to adapt. With the help of some very good friends Mom raised the five of us and many others. With her fresh bread and cookies it seemed the house was always full.

Peggy enjoyed life; there were all her pen pals, the goat club, apple-core club, dance and card club along with Toastmistress Club, Wildwood Ratepayers, and Powell River Historical Museum and Archives. Later she was known as Granny Bird at James Thomson Elemetary School, with many Wildwood school children under her wings. Mom also organized the Wildwood Grannies for planning the May Day teas at the school. Granny will always be remembered for her monthly letter writing to family, friends and also to all the shut-ins at the United Church.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20 at1 pm at Powell River Town Centre Hotel in Westview. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Powell River General Hospital Foundation or BC Children’s Hospital.

Luke Bombardir, March 22, 1946 - April 1, 2013

Luke passed away suddenly on April 1. He was born in Torlano, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Luke was predeceased by his loving father Guerrino in 1981 and loving mother Elsa in 2008. He leaves to mourn his sweetheart and heartbroken wife of 45 years, who will always love him, Mary-Lou, his adoring children, daughter Angela, son Brad and wife Heather, precious grandchildren Jaxon, Ellé and Avery, forever loving sister Roseann and brother-in-law Jack, sister-in-law Ann (Fred), his ‘more than a friend’ father-in-law Chuck Mould, many cousins, nieces, nephews and grandnephews.

Luke was a great athlete and a sports fan and was known as “The Homerun King” in softball, a hockey referee for 50 years, including being the “Head Referee” for minor hockey, and of course one of the Powell River Kings’ biggest supporters.

Our family would like to thank BC Ambulance Service, Powell River Fire Rescue and Powell River RCMP personnel along with the emergency room doctors and nurses for all their care given to Luke and our family. We will alway be so grateful, you truly are angels.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 9, at the Church of the Assumption, officiated by Father Daas and Father Neufeld. Where would we be without you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

As Luke said many times every day, I love you - God bless you.

“We love you more”
