George Frederick John “Jake” Tyler, January 6, 1934 - April 26, 2015
After a difficult but determined struggle to overcome the distressing effects of a serious brain injury, Jake passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, April 26 at Willingdon Creek Village. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Evelyn Tyler and his sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Bill Ledingham, all of Vancouver. Jake is survived by Janet, his wife of 49 years, two sons David of Vancouver and Darren (Debbie) of Powell River, his much beloved three grandchildren Rhys, Morgan and Nolan also of Powell River, two brothers-in-law David (Marian) Long of Bedfordshire, England, and Stephen (Ann) Long of Champaign, Illinois, four nephews Richard and Stuart Long of Bedfordshire, England, and Patrick Long and James (Charlotte) Long of Washington, DC, plus their two young sons Andrew and Landon.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Jake left the city at the age of 18 to begin work in the Powell River paper mill. He was very proud of the 42 accident-free years he spent working there.
Upon retiring Jake moved to Steveston with Janet, but in 2007 they decided to return to Powell River to be nearer to their grandchildren. Jake was a strong man; always keen on sports, especially golf, hockey and bowling. He had a special love for animals and they loved him equally in return. He will be sadly missed by the family’s current pet dog Zillah.
In accordance with Jake’s wishes there will be no service, and donations to the BC SPCA would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
