Hugo Steiner, December 31, 1928 - March 25, 2013

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hugo. He was born in Switzerland and immigrated to Canada in 1953. After a few years in the east he moved his family to Powell River where he worked as a carpenter and then joined the Powell River School Board where he stayed until he retired in 1993.

Hugo was a man of integrity and honesty, who took pride in his work and his carved signs that can still be seen in many places around town. His summers were spent up the lake fulfilling his passion for fishing and the Powell River Kings were the highlight of his week. The ear-deafening sound of his Swiss cowbell will be sadly missed.

Hugo is survived by Rosmarie, his loving wife of 55 years, his two sons Daniel (Lori) and Thomas (Uschi), beloved grandsons Benjamin and Manuel in Switzerland and many dear friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, April 6, at 2 pm at Church of the Assumption. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hugo’s memory to Powell River General Hospital Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Stubberfield Funeral Home.
