Shawn Ian Gentry ~ July 8, 1969 - June 29, 2014
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our beloved Shawn. Shawn's greatest passion was the outdoors. He was an avid mushroom picker, enjoyed working on his cedar strip kayaks and had dreams of panning for gold.
Shawn is predeceased by his mother, Helen, and his brothers, Melvin and Rick. He is survived by his father, Gilbert; three children, Chelsea, Jordan and Melissa; three brothers, Wayne (Marilyn), Ed and Robert; and four sisters Linda (Bud), Deane (Tom), Donna (Rob) and Bonnie. He also leaves behind a large family and an abundance of friends. Shawn was loved by many and will be sadly missed.
The family would like to thank Powell River RCMP, Powell River Search and Rescue, Comox Search and Rescue, Victim Services, the SPCA and the many friends, family and volunteers for their help and support during our search effort and throughout this difficult time. There will be no service at this time, however, Shawn's family and friends will walk with him along side his favorite river to his final resting place.
Shawn, we miss you, we will be thinking of you often, and you will remain in our hearts forever.
COWAN, Dorothy ~ August 21, 2014
Dorothy Stephenson was born July 3, 1925, in Calgary, Alberta, a younger sister to Kathleen. The family soon relocated to Vancouver, a city Mum loved all her life.
The Great Depression was hard on many families. In 1936 Mum’s parents separated irreconcilably. Living without a father and in poverty in those years helped forge in Mum the tolerance and forgiveness she was known for.
After graduating from King Ed High School in 1944, Mum enrolled in the RN program at VGH. She loved her nursing career. She married John ("Ian") Cowan in 1948. The newlyweds settled in Powell River for 4 years before relocating to Ladner. Ruth was born in 1949, David in 1951, Betty in 1953, Susan in 1955 and John in 1959. Mum was busy looking after her baby boom, but always remembered to have some fun, too. Mum loved walking, going to the movies, church, Bingo, singing in the choir, and laughing with friends.
Dorothy and Ian retired to Powell River in 1979. She is predeceased by Ian (1987), and leaves behind to miss her five children, 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-greatgranddaughter. God had indeed blessed our parents with the family that Mum longed for!
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dorothy’s name to the charity of your choice. Funerals: Ladner United Church, 2 pm Aug 30; Powell River United Church, 2 pm Sept 20.

Natalie was born on the island of Malta. Her twin brother, Noel survived only 18 days. She moved with her family to Powell River in 1960.
Natalie was known by many in Powell River. She loved going into her community and meeting people in social settings. She would especially look forward to family gatherings. Natalie was a very proud aunty who would spend many hours shopping and wrapping gifts for her beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of the people, throughout the years, who helped provide care for the extraordinary challenges that Natalie faced in her lifetime.

In Loving Memory of Geoffrey Clarke ~ 1959-2004
It’s been ten years and the memories don’t fade, they just grow deep for one we loved and couldn’t keep. We still have tears when we speak your name and the ache in our hearts still remains the same. We laugh, we smile, we play the parts, behind it all lies our heavy hearts. Unseen, unheard, we know Geoff is always near, so loved, so missed and so very dear.
Cherished, loved and forever remembered by Iris, Luke and Katie.
